The SHACK by William P. Young

I just finished reading this book and let me tell you it is amazing. I have not read a book in it's entirety since the "Left Behind" series, sad I know, but this was one that I had a hard time putting down, and some chapters I went back and read again. It's an easy read because the story gets you right from the start. This is one of those books that you can't wait to pass it on for others to read!!! So if you are looking for that perfect gift for the booklover in your life, get this book!!!

The little things...

I have been more aware lately of the little things. The things that in a crazy hectic day you could walk right past and miss the 'lil blessing. Yesterday during church Hannah layed her head on my lap and began to intertwine her fingers into mine and measure her hands next to mine. As she continued to do this I began to realize how important my role as mom is. You see this little girl is watching everything that I do, how I treat her daddy, how I treat her brother, how I treat her and how I treat others. That's quite a bit of pressure. I want her to find a love that I have with Jesus, and I hope that she will only measure herself by HIS yard stick and not the worlds. For a long time I used the worlds ruler and you know I always came up short. So as I go about my daily walk, I am aware that she is watching me and if I keep my eyes on HIM she will see His reflection...

That's quite a reflection to have on a cold Monday morning, knowing that so many things have to be completed today...and then I go for my grocery list and menu and I find another "little" thing and this time I am cracking up laughing...you see every Sunday I make a 'menu' for the week, I don't assign days to the meals but I make sure that I have all the ingredients in the house for the meals on the list. So imagine my enjoyment when I see that the kids got hold of the menu and assigned days on certain meals and put N/A on others!! LOL I guess now I know that on those days the kids will be dining on cereal! LOL So you see, don't close your eyes and miss the little things!!

You might be a redneck if.....

Let me explain...Last Christmas we had our minivan and got our tree and tied it to the roof rack however, this year, we have our two 'lil cars and didn't know how we were going to bring home tree. We did have some offers to use trucks etc..but it was Wed afternoon when Dave got home from school and we decided to go and just "look" at some trees. Well you know I found THE perfect tree and at this place they do wrap the trees up and well we decided what the heck, we can tie this tree to the car!! Only when the guy brought the tree to the car he chuckled (oh yes he did!) and as Dave was putting the branches in the back the guy said if you put the seats down we can slide this tree right in! We cracked up all the way home and Dave said, "you might be a redneck if you transport your christmas tree IN your car" I have to say, it is the prettiest Frasier Fur tree we have ever had!!!

Gobble Gobble!!

It's the week of Thanksgiving!! I do love Thanksgiving because I am reminded of all the things that I have in my life to be Thankful for! Not that we are not Thankful everyday, but Thanksgiving is just special! Our family spends the day at the Lebanon Rescue Mission, the kids get to serve the meal to those that come in and they love to do this, after they are done eating, the shelter guests then return the favor and serve us! It has been such a blessing to be part of that and I am Thankful that we are able to have this as part of our family tradition. In the evening we attend a celebration at a dear friends home, this family invited us to be part of their Thanksgiving the first year we came to this church and since then we have attended each year, it is so nice to be part of the Family of God because no matter where we are, family is near!! One of the things we do each night before we pray with the kiddos is ask them Happy/Sad/Thankful about their day, so no matter how lousy you think your day has been you can always find a happy/sad/thankful in it!! I challenge you to try this each evening!!

Don't blink...

Don't blink...I have heard this song so many times and whenever I hear it I tear up a little bit...Today, it really hit me. Today Josh woke up and came into the kitchen carrying all his stuffed animals and said Mom where can I donate these, I don't want them anymore *gasp* he didn't want "giraffe" anymore?? The Giraffe he made when he was five years old while visiting his aunt in Az., the same giraffe that he has slept with everyday since then, he didn't want him anymore?? *tears* I think this is a big moment, he's growing up.....Don't blink...

Cards

Wow, I am hanging my head in shame....I have not scrapped since September!! And I do believe that if there was a bible for scrapbookers that would be a sin.. Thankfully I have been redeamed, yesterday I scrapped!! Well, I made cards but I used my scrap stuff :) Here is a small sample of my latest card creations! enjoy

Anniversary Getaway...

Hi! It has been way to long since my last post. Since that time my sweet husband got me the new cricut expression!!! Oh yes he did!! Now, can anyone give me instruction on how to use it? LOL And we celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary in Havre De Grace Md. Where the Susquehanna meets the Chesapeake. It was so beautiful and relaxing to getaway for a few days just the two of us and a jacuzzi built for two....I'll spare any details!! Here is the Concord Point Light House and a pic of the B&B the Vandiver Inn. I had so much fun taking pictures, but it's easy when you have such beautiful surroundings! I'll add a funny one, we could not resist to take a pic of our 'lil blue blessing next to an old ship rudder! LOL It's tiny but mighty and I love our car!! ta ta for now, I have lot's to report!

Strawberry Shortcake!!

I'm so excited to post this!!! This cake was for my "niece" Grace on her 2nd birthday. I love to bake and decorate and I love a challenge and this certainly was! The original cake was all fondant, but I really don't like the taste of fondant so I did a smooth butter cream and used fondant to make the accent pieces! This was so fun to do!! Yeah, had to share!! I love this cake! It's a white cake with strawberry cream filling!! YUMMMMM

Things that make you go hummmmm...

The kids came bounding in the door today after school screaming for all of us to come and see they found a bee having a baby! HURRY.......So the scrapbooker in me kicked in and I grabbed the camera! So we are all on the ground checking it out and I'm snapping pics and the kids are all like awe how cute, and Dave is crackin up and says "yeah, umm guys I'm thinking she's not having a baby, but making one instead" HA! The awes turned quickly to ewes and they went on with their day! LOL So wow, I saw a Bee having sex and I have a picture to prove it!! Now that puts new meaning to the birds and the bees now doesn't it! LOL

Made from "concentrate"

Ok, so this just made me laugh out loud today, and believe me when I say that right now anything that 'causes laughter is a good thing! Let me rewind a bit and begin the story.... The other morning while Josh was having breakfast before school he starts cracking up, so naturally we go to him to see what is 'causing his laughter and he says "I just figured out why Orange Juice is good in the morning" Hummmmm OK "why?" "'Cause it's made from "concentrate", get it....hahahaha" Oy, his humor is just like Dave! So now fast forward to this morning, Hannah is sitting there and says, "Daddy, can I have a big glass of orange juice today so I can "concentrate" !!! HA!! It makes me chuckle......and I needed that!!!

Todays projects

Actually these projects are an extension of last evening, I was making three clipboard gifts and filling and decorating a cake all while watching Criminal Minds and CSI NY. They are my favorite Wed. night shows, although Criminal Minds was a tough one to watch, I really thought my man was a goner and whew that would have ruined my entire being!! Oh, wait, that's just a TV show, what am I saying!! KIDDING! Anyway, I wanted to make the three pee-wee coaches a special 'lil something. They have all been so good to Hannah, even when she would not speak!! Oh yeah, I guess that story is worth telling. Hannah is super shy and it takes her some time to open up and feel comfortable talking and she was never one to be in the "spotlight". So when she came home the end of last school year and said she wanted to be a cheerleader Dave and I kinda scratched our heads but embraced her decision! The first month of practice was learning the motions and the chants and well, Hannah did all the motions but there was no way she was going to yell. So everyday we would pick her up from practice one of the coaches would walk up to us and very kindly say "she needs to talk" which finally turned in to "she needs to at least move her lips" (I guess there is not much of a need for a mute cheerleader??) So we would encourage her, pray over her and with her every day and still nothing. Game day arrived and Dave dropped her off, he was heading for a seat and he heard her yell her name, stopped him in his tracks as well as all three coaches!! From then on, she's been cheering her heart out and it has been the best confidence booster for her! It's trickled over into her classroom as well, she now volunteers to read in front of the class!! We Praise God for this and we are thankful for three ladies that He chose to use!! Thank you Coach Amy, Angi and Kelly we love you!!! I really hope they like their clipboards!! My other project was a cake, a strawberry cream filled white cake with butter cream icing. That is for a teacher luncheon at school. I love to bake and decorate, so I played a little with the icing, I'm preparing to make a three tier birthday cake second weekend in Oct. and I wanted to practice smoothing out the butter cream and making swirls, kinda. I chose orange because the school colors! LOL Just having fun! Enjoy!

My latest favorite product!

I'll start out by stating that I do not work for this company nor do I get paid to advertise!! LOL It's just 'lil old me and my opinion!! I do various gifts for teachers etc. and have always used Mod Podge, which don't get me wrong, it works! However, I came across this product and it has made my life so much easier!! It dries so quick and smooths out awesome!!! And I love it!! It's my new favorite product!! Oh, that and I got the Marvy Giga square punch and ohhhh I love that too!! I love to punch out my pictures into perfect 'lil 3in squares!!! Let me know if you use the paper patch glue on a project, I'd love to hear how much you love it too!!

Future Hunter!

I can hardly believe Josh is old enough to hunt this year. My boy is becoming a young man, only shhhh dont' tell anyone but the boy is still in there because after he got his new hunting gear he wanted to sleep in it! HA!! Dave is so excited to take him out in the woods. It's totally a guy thing, because I don't think I'd find much enjoyment getting up before the sun, walking blindly into the woods ,climbing a tree and sitting still, oh and yeah, YOU CAN'T Talk?? What's up with that?? I'd last about, humm, I wouldn't last at all! And here is the most interesting part to me, I'm still trying to figure out how my husband can hear the alarm on a hunting day on the FIRST ring and be bright eyed and out the door when on a school day I'm beating him with a pillow to shut off the clock and he squints his eyes at me and says HUH? I guess it's a question that cannot be explained, It is a guy thing and I'll never understand and you know what I'm OK with that! I'm certain that when my husband comes to one of my crops and stands amongst the mountains of scrapbook supplies he's scratching his head in wonder as well....So we will continue on, he in his tree and me at my desk and we will live happily ever after..........ahhhhhh

more random layouts......

A day at the Alderson's!! Come on get happy!!!

Ahh a new day, only when my feet hit the floor I was quickly reminded of the day before because it kind of had a painful ending.....Let me rewind! Yesterday started with a phone call that made me sad even a little mad and progressed from there. I went shopping for some specific things and had an ADD moment and came home with only one, well actually nothing on my list! Later Josh got the clothes off the line and threw them on my bed, I went back to fold them and there were stink bugs (brown marmorated stink bugs, google them I dare you) ALL OVER!!! It was so nasty, and I hate bugs to begin with, and Dave was not home so I had to call Josh who is not too fond of them either but he put some rubber gloves on and we flushed them down the toilet!! These bugs are nasty looking things, they don't hurt but man if you squish them, ewe...hence the name "stink bug" I guess they liked my laundry!! After that we got back to our normal evening routine. Got Hannah all snuggled in her bed, one more to go, and then quiet........Only Josh decides to show me how high he can do an axe kick (he's in Karate) in the kitchen, with the fridge door open...are you following....'cause his foot hit the highest shelf on the door which caused it to fall ON MY FOOT and brace yourself, an entire glass jar of minced garlic and all it's contents broke on the kitchen floor!!! Deep breath........technically it was an accident....another deep breath....and I'm on the floor with plastic bags on my hands trying to pick every last piece of minced garlic I could see off the carpet....and Josh decides to check out the other items from the shelf and informs me that our spray butter is a few weeks out of date and wanted to know if he should throw it.......at this point I now feel like I'm in a bad cell phone commercial and we have no reception and he's just not getting it!!!!!!!!! I think he got it when I shot a look of death at him, I love those non-verbal ques! He quickly picked up the items and rinsed them in the sink while I scrubbed the floor and doused it with baking soda to draw out the garlic juice. So here comes the funny part, just the other day Dave and I had this conversation during the food networks presentation on garlic fields and he said how much he hated that smell and that he could never work there!! HA!! Boy was he in for a sup rise when he got home from school (it was his late night class)!! LOL
I can say with certainty that baking soda works, I can't smell garlic today, my foot has a nice black reminder of the day and I'll be wearing flip flops for a few days but our house does not smell like an Italian sweat shop so I'm pretty happy!! Note to self: add garlic to grocery list (plastic jar)... Adios for now!!

Random layouts!

A few random layouts! I can't say I have a specific 'style' in my scrapbooking. I don't scrapbook chronologically, I tend to have lot's of pics on my pages, but then again sometimes I like lot's of white space!! Sometimes I like to stay in the same color family, and sometimes I'm all over that color wheel!! I'm hoping that my layouts will tell a story and that the embellies don't take away from the message! These are some older layouts to share!! ENJOY

Question: should the layouts be photographed with or without the page protector?? Or does that not even matter?? Thanks!

Scrap retreat!!

What a weekend!! I spent the weekend scrapbooking at Kenbrook, a Christian camp nestled in the beautiful mountains of Lebanon, Pa. http://www.kenbrook.org/ The lodge was beautiful and our scrap space was amazing!! We each had a 6foot table to ourselves and there was plenty of space around each table. We could not have asked for more, the weather was beautiful, the food was out of this world and the staff was friendly and very accomadating. I completed an 8x8 gift album and 53 baby shower invitations!! Oh and a few layouts!! I won some cool prizes as well! I can't believe I didn't take my camera, I must have had short term memory loss, what kind of scrapper goes anywhere without a camera?? UGH!! Alzheimers' at 35??

Well Here I go!! My First ever blog post!

OK, well finally I am going to make my very first blog post! My dear friend has a blog and I enjoy reading about the crazy things going on in her life and I got to thinking, If I think her life is fun to read, well mine will be 'all that and a bag of chips'! LOL So first thing first, I am really bad with ummmm analogies, see sentence above! LOL For me they make total sense!! So if your going to read my musings you will just have to put up with my poor sarcastic ablilities....

Let me introduce myself, my name is Jennifer and I am 35. I am a SAHM with two beautiful children, Joshua 12 and Hannah 8. I share this life with my husband and best friend, Dave. There is never a dull moment in this house!! I love to be creative! I love to bake and decorate cakes (that I hope NEVER end up on the 'cake wreck' blog). I am passionate about scrapbooking. I even got to go on a scrapbooking 'mission' trip, if you will! How cool is that!! This art form is such an amazing ministry tool, seriously get a few women around a table with pictures of those they love and there is going to be communication and sharing, it really opens doors!! I love to go for walks and I love to play volleyball (well, in my mind I'm still as good as in college, but my body is saying, "oh, heck no girl" LOL)

I hope this blog makes someone smile!! and if anyone has tips on how to make this page look cool , I'm open for any suggestions!!
